You really need to sleep!


The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that to maintain a healthy lifestyle, you need to get at least 7 hours of sleep per night. Well, then we’re in trouble here in New Jersey because according to the CDC, more than 2.5 million adults 20 and older aren’t getting enough sleep.

That’s 37.5% of the population who are tired and can’t sleep compared to the national average of 35% of adults nationwide or more than 90 million people.

The health ramifications of sleep deprivation are quite significant. According to sleep experts, there is an increase in diabetes, obesity and depression as well as a higher risk of reduced performance at work, staying awake while driving and taking overall decision.

New Jersey ranks 17th in the nation as the state with the most sleep deprivation. Hawaii ranks number one, which I don’t understand considering it’s 24/7 paradise and the sound of ukuleles wafts through the air.

The CDC suggests that exercising, limiting caffeine, going to bed at the same time every night, and avoiding large meals and alcohol should help you sleep better at night.

Personally, I have trouble sleeping and although it frustrates me immensely, especially knowing that I have to get up early for a very important day and am up all night.

I tried sleeping pills, special pillows, sound machines, massages and other tricks and formulas to try to sleep, but to no avail.

I will keep trying and do what I can to get that 7 hours of sleep. I only miss 4 hours a night. I wish you good luck and sweet dreams.
