Review: Nopinz Pro-1 Roubaix Woman Jersey

The Nopinz Pro-1 Roubaix Jersey-Woman’s offers ideal warmth for fall and spring, with a generous amount of reflective detailing. It’s a form-fitting jersey, but you’ll almost certainly need to go up a size – and even after that you might find that the sleeves are still too short.

Conditions this winter have seen some incredibly mild spells, ideal for testing the Roubaix jersey, which has been designed to provide protection on the colder spring and fall rides.

The jersey is part of Nopinz’s Pro-1 range, which aims to make high performance aero kit accessible to everyone. It’s supposed to be a slim fit, but in my experience you’ll have to be careful what size you choose with this jersey.

According to the Nopinz size chart, with a chest measurement of 88cm and a weight of 60kg, I should sit comfortably at the lower end of a size small. However, even the medium is tighter than I prefer in places, including across the chest and forearms, and the sleeves are very short.

Notably, this long-sleeved option differs from the sizing of the Pro-1 collection summer options; I tested the short sleeve jersey in the summer and found the size small provided an incredibly close fit that wasn’t too tight.

If you’re following the current sizing chart, I highly recommend going up a size, potentially two.

The jersey is made from an Italian Roubaix-lined fabric that is deliciously soft to the touch. However, while the fabric itself is comfortable, the positioning of the seams just above the elbow is not, causing irritation when worn without underwear.

The sleeves are also short, although the sleeve cuffs themselves are excellent: low profile and good secure width.

A wide silicone-coated elastic band runs around the base of the jersey, keeping it in place while riding.

There are three pockets on the back, the middle one being the widest at 12cm. This makes it a good option for filling a waterproof shell, while the angled openings of the two outer side pockets give you easy access to contents on the go, and are therefore good places to store nutrition. The jersey however does not come with a zippered pocket to secure valuables.

Nopinz have been wonderfully generous with the extent of reflective detailing used: a reflective strip runs across the width of the rear pockets for some visibility when riding in low light conditions.

For added visibility, you can also opt for a bright coral option rather than the navy I tested – and the jersey is also available in purple.

High-end long-sleeved jerseys can hit the £150 mark, such as the Velocio’s Women’s Signature Long Sleeve, so Roubaix’s £99.99 RRP isn’t bad for a long-sleeved jersey near the body.

That said, there are options that have really impressed for around the same price, or less: Tactic Sport’s Hard Day Long Sleeve Shirt is £98 and has a more consistent and comfortable fit, and the stretchy, well-cut design of the cuffs really helps. when paired with short cuff gloves.

I also tested Velocio’s Foundation Long Sleeve Jersey (full review imminent) which is still slightly cheaper at £94. It has a well-shaped, relaxed fit that’s comfortable on the bike and is made entirely from recycled materials.

Overall, the Pro-1 Roubaix uses wonderfully soft and comfortable fabric, but there are better-fitting aero or relaxed options for the money.

Overall it has the potential to be better than average, with the material soft and the warmth level nice for spring and fall days, but it’s tight across the chest and forearms ( despite going up a size), and the seam above each elbow caused chafing.
