Pittsburgh Penguins unveil Highmark jersey patch deal

  • NHL franchise to seek additional away jersey patch partner
  • League-approved shirt crest sponsors from the start of the 2022/23 season

The Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL) have reached an agreement with non-profit healthcare company Highmark Blue Shield to become the team’s Official Home Jersey Partner.

The minimum three-year deal will take effect from the start of the 2022/23 season and will see the Highmark logo appear on the upper right chest of all Penguins home jerseys during the preseason, regular season and playoffs.

To activate the new pact, all fans at the Penguins’ April 21 clash with the Boston Bruins will receive a black replica jersey t-shirt featuring the logo of the Pittsburgh-based healthcare company.

In August 2021, the NHL authorized teams to sign jersey crest sponsorships which are effective for the start of the 2022/23 season.

The Washington Capitals became the first franchise to agree a home jersey crest partner last September, signing a deal with Caesars Entertainment that Sportico reports is worth US$6 million per season.

Under its new guidelines, the NHL will allow teams to sign jersey crest sponsors for their home and away jerseys, with the Penguins saying details of the deal outside the franchise will be revealed at a later date.

“As a founding partner of the Penguins, Highmark has contributed to our success on the ice and in the community,” said David Morehouse, Pittsburgh Penguins President and CEO.

“Stitching the Highmark logo on our home jerseys is a testament to our long-term partnership and an opportunity to introduce this Pittsburgh brand to millions of viewers and social media followers around the world – and especially to our fans at home games at PPG Paints. Arena.”

Tom Doran, Executive Vice President and COO of Highmark Inc, added, “The Pittsburgh Penguins are a key part of the fabric of this community. Their victories happen on and off the ice, as they are also champions of education, wellness and public service.

“Highmark is proud to team up with the Penguins and believes this partnership is an investment in the community. We can’t wait to see the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield logo on the front of Penguins home jerseys.
